An accessible website: what the law now asks of you!
The European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025. If you sell online to consumers, or offer banking, transport, telecoms or e-books, your digital channel has to be usable by people with a disability. Not as good intentions, as an obligation.
There are exemptions — small companies with fewer than ten employees and under two million euro turnover fall outside the obligation for services — but the exemption is narrower than most business owners hope. And law aside: one in five people has a disability affecting how they use a site. That is not a fringe group, that is revenue.
What accessible actually means!
Everything works from the keyboard
Anyone who cannot use a mouse must be able to tab through your site and see where they are. Menus that only open on hover, and forms you get stuck in, are the most common blockers.
Enough contrast
Light grey text on white looks calm on a screen in a dim office and is unreadable on a phone outdoors. The standard is measurable, so this can be checked instead of argued about.
Images with a description
Every image carrying information needs a text alternative — your product photos included. Purely decorative images should have none, which goes wrong just as often.
Error messages that say something
A red outline is not an error message. Say which field is wrong and why, in text a screen reader reads out. This also happens to be where ordinary visitors give up.
How you get compliant!
We start with an audit against the WCAG guidelines, partly with tooling and partly by hand — because automated checks find at most a third of the problems. You get a list of what blocks, what hinders and what is cosmetic.
Then we fix in that order. On an ordinary company site that is two to five days of work; on a webshop with a checkout, more. An audit on its own costs 950 euro and is useful even if you carry on yourself afterwards.
